Vought Named Corporation of the Year by Grand Prairie Chamber of Commerce

DALLAS, JAN. 26, 2010 – Vought Aircraft Industries, Inc. has been named the 2009 “Corporation of the Year” by the Grand Prairie (Texas) Chamber of Commerce. The award recognizes professionalism and commitment to the Grand Prairie community and its economy.

Four other local companies were nominated for the award. It is the first time Vought’s Grand Prairie facility has received the chamber’s award, a recognition program that has been in place about 20 years.

“This award is indicative of the relentless commitment and involvement of our employees in the local community.  From school board member to little league coaches to volunteers in support of Chamber of Commerce events, it’s our employees and their time, efforts, and unselfish attitude that make these honorable achievements for us a reality,” said Steve Davis, Vought vice president, Commercial Aerostructures Division.

Norm Porter, human resources manager for the facility in Grand Prairie, received the award on Vought’s behalf during a formal ceremony recently.  “Norm is a good example of a Vought employee who is committed to serving the community,” said Davis. “He has served on the Grand Prairie Chamber Board of Directors for the past three years, and has been nominated and approved for another three-year term representing Vought. During the ceremony the president of the chamber referred to Norm as ‘the model corporate citizen.’”

The Vought facility in Grand Prairie, known by employees as the Marshall Street Facility site, was built in 1968. Workers at the facility produce major aerostructures for the Boeing Co. Construction of these large structures utilize manual and automated assembly techniques, some of which travel along a “moving line” process, as well as Voughtmatic auto-riveters and two Brotje automation machines.

Aircraft structures that have been produced at the facility include empennage sections of the Boeing 747, 757 and 767, Gulfstream V wings, CL601 business jet nacelles, and empennage sections for the McDonnell Douglas DC-10.
