Vought Congratulates Airbus
on Delivery of its 6,000th Aircraft
NASHVILLE, TENN., JAN. 25, 2010 – Vought Aircraft Industries congratulates Airbus on the delivery of its 6,000th aircraft. The A-380, which was delivered to Emirates Airlines on Jan. 18, is the 6,000th in the manufacturer’s 40-year history.
“We are honored to have played a role in supporting Airbus in this achievement,” said Neil Peace, Vought’s Airbus program director. “We estimate that our employees have had a hand in creating nearly one-quarter of the 6,000 Airbus aircraft built.”
Vought is one of the largest U.S. manufacturers of aerostructures for Airbus and has been a trusted partner since 1988. The company's Nashville facility builds various wing components for the A330/A340 family of aircraft -- some measuring more than 100 feet long.
Vought has built wing components for 600 A-320s, 137 A340-500/600 and just over 1,000 A330/A340 airliners.
“The achievement we celebrate here is due in no small part to our partners’ ingenuity and innovation, and our U.S. partners, such as Vought, in particular,” says Allan McArtor, Chairman of Airbus Americas. “Every Airbus aircraft sold and delivered is a boost for the U.S. economy. Cumulatively in the last decade, Airbus has contributed more than $100 billion to the U.S. economy, making Airbus the largest export customer for the U.S. aerospace industry.”
Vought became the first major U.S. supplier to Airbus back in 1988 with the award of wing components for the A330/A340 commercial airplanes. Vought’s work in Nashville fostered technical innovation with transatlantic computer interface for design, low-voltage electromagnetic riveting (LVER) and automated drill cell for composites. Deliveries for the A330/A340 began in 1990, with more than 1,000 wing component units shipped to date.
Vought also has played a role in the Airbus A319/A320 family of aircraft. From 1997 to 2007, Vought built and delivered more than 600 upper wing panel assemblies for the popular single-aisle A319/A320.
