Vought Receives Gold Level “Well Workplace”
Award from Wellness Council of America
DALLAS, JAN. 19, 2010 – Vought Aircraft Industries announced today that the Wellness Council of America (WELCOA) has recognized the company’s commitment to providing a healthy workplace with the “Well Workplace” Award at the gold level. With this designation, Vought joins an elite group of organizations that WELCOA has identified as America’s healthiest companies in 2009.
“To have Vought recognized as one of the best wellness programs in the country is an honor,” said Vought Vice President of Human Resources Tom Stubbins. “Providing a health-improving work environment for our employees is one of the keys to our success as a company. Our employees’ response to the program tells us we are on the right track. Participation levels are well above the industry average, and 75 percent of our employees gave our health program top ratings in a recent opinion survey.”
There are four levels of annual “Well Workplace” awards from WELCOA: bronze, silver, gold and platinum. Application criteria for each of these designations are based upon progressive development and implementation of an organization’s wellness initiative within the context of benchmarks shown to produce results in organizations of all sizes and industry types.
Vought launched its LiveWell@Vought wellness program in June 2007 by hosting fun, festive onsite health fairs for active employees and their immediate families. Since then, the number of employees suffering from five or more risk factors, such as diabetes or high blood pressure, has declined by more than 25 percent. In addition, the company has seen increased participation levels in all of its wellness activities.
Wellness participants continue to receive a free, confidential health screening each year. Annual health assessments are an integral part of Vought’s wellness program, as are ongoing challenges and educational seminars, online health education and condition management, access to onsite fitness centers and more.
Vought hired Cooper Aerobics Center’s consulting division, Cooper Corporate Solutions, and Alere (formerly Matria) Healthcare to develop and manage its LiveWell@Vought wellness program. A Cooper wellness coordinator is located onsite at Vought sites to assist in the design and execution of the wellness program.
