DALLAS, DEC. 18, 2009 – Vought Aircraft Industries is underwriting a Christmas day noontime meal at Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) International airport for approximately 200 military members who are returning to Iraq and Afghanistan after two weeks of leave.
“It is an honor for us to contribute to the USO and provide turkey and all the trimmings to these troops on Christmas,” said Cheryl Helms, Vought V-22 program manager. “Seeing to their basic needs on such an important day is extremely rewarding for us.”
Vought employees also participated in the USO Santa Sendoff mission this week by distributing goodie bags filled with a variety of items for troops traveling through DFW airport.
“With Vought supplying parts to many aircraft used in the war effort, supporting the USO holds special meaning,” said Cheryl Helms, Vought V-22 program manager. “Since the deployment of the V-22 in September 2007 to its most recent arrival in Afghanistan earlier this month, the awareness and significance of our daily efforts are personified. The USO reminds us that building quality parts for the military is an important job.”
The USO is a private, nonprofit organization whose mission is to support the troops by providing morale, welfare and recreation-type services to our men and women in uniform. The original intent of Congress — and enduring style of USO delivery — is to represent the American people by extending a touch of home to the military. The USO currently operates more than 130 centers worldwide.
