Vought Sites in Tennessee, Florida to Participate in American Heart Association's Start! Heart Walks

NASHVILLE, TENN., SEPT. 25, 2009 – Vought Aircraft Industries employees here and in Stuart, Fla., are participating in the American Heart Association’s Start! Heart Walk this weekend. It is the association’s premier fundraising event .

This year more than 1 million walkers will participate in about 400 Heart Walk events across the nation, raising funds to save lives from America’s No. 1 and No. 3 killers — heart disease and stroke. Walking briskly for 30 to 60 minutes every day may delay or even prevent heart disease, according to the AHA. It is one of the easiest ways to control weight, manage stress and boost energy.

“As a company, we value corporate citizenship and employee well-being,” said Vice President of Human Resources Tom Stubbins. “Events like the Heart Walk tie into both values. They are a great way for us to actively support our communities while being physically active at the same time.”

The company’s facility in Florida has participated in the Treasure Coast walk since 2001, raising about $5,000 annually.

Last year Vought received the AHA’s platinum-level Start! Fit-Friendly award, the organization’s highest possible recognition. Vought earned the award for its LiveWell@Vought companywide wellness program.

Launched in June 2007, LiveWell@Vought provides employees with the resources to make substantial and permanent lifestyle improvements. These resources include annual comprehensive health screenings, online health education and condition management, companywide challenges to promote healthy weight and lifestyle management, and on-site fitness programs.

Vought enlisted the help of Cooper Aerobics Center's consulting division, Cooper Ventures, and Alere (formerly Matria Healthcare) to develop its wellness program. It includes the hiring and management of six staff members to provide onsite support at Vought facilities across the nation.
