Vought Marks Major Milestone with 1,000th Unit of Wing Components for Airbus A330/A340

NASHVILLE, JAN. 15, 2009 – Vought Aircraft Industries, Inc. marked a significant milestone recently with Airbus by completing its 1,000th unit of wing components for the A330/A340 family of commercial airplanes.

“The A330/A340 family of aircraft continues to achieve tremendous market success, and we are proud to be a part of its legacy,” said Neil Peace, Vought’s Airbus program director. “This is truly a ‘grand’ milestone to be celebrated between Vought and Airbus, our long-time and valued customer."

In 1988, the company became the first major U.S. supplier to Airbus with the award of wing components for the A330/A340. Initial deliveries began in 1990.

In May 2007, Vought signed a life-of-program contract extension with Airbus to be its sole-source supplier on the A330/A340 for mid-and outboard leading edge assemblies, top panel assemblies, center spar assemblies and mid-rear spars. The contract also covers A340-500/600 mid- and outboard leading edge assemblies, top skins and stringers, center spar assemblies and mid-rear spars.

The A330/A340 consists of five aircraft models in the 250 to 375 seats category. The A330/340 family is the first to break the 1,000 order mark from more than 85 operators in this market segment. The family of aircraft combines high levels of passenger comfort as well as operational efficiency. They can be operated on regional as well as ultra-long haul routes.
