DALLAS, FEB. 15, 2008 – Vought Aircraft Industries, Inc. has been recognized by the March of Dimes for being a Top 10 Corporate Sponsor for the non-profit’s annual walking event in the Dallas-Fort Worth area last year. The award was presented at a 2008 March for Babies kick-off breakfast held here at the Hilton Anatole hotel on Feb. 13.
Vought executives accepted the award on behalf of the company’s entire workforce in Texas, which contributed nearly $75,000 to the March of Dimes in 2007.
Companywide, Vought raised more than $110,000 last year for the annual March of Dimes walking campaign. Since 1980, employees from Vought in Dallas have been turning out by the hundreds to support this annual rite of spring. All Vought sites across the country are now enthusiastic participants in the walk to save babies.
March for Babies (previously WalkAmerica) -- the nation’s oldest walking event -- has raised more than $1.7 billion for the health of America’s babies since 1970. It is the March of Dimes’ grassroots effort to raise money for the fight to prevent birth defects, infant mortality and stem the growing crisis of premature birth, the leading killer of newborns. Many participants walk for personal reasons; some in memory of a child lost to premature birth, some to spare others the problems they faced.
The March of Dimes is a national voluntary health agency whose mission is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth, and infant mortality. Founded in 1938, the March of Dimes funds programs of research, community services, education, and advocacy to save babies and in 2003 launched a campaign to address the increasing rate of premature birth.
