Vought Delivers 750th Set of Wing Components for Airbus A330/340 Aircraft

NASHVILLE, FEB. 23, 2007 – Vought Aircraft Industries, Inc. marked a significant milestone recently by shipping its 750th unit of wing components to Airbus in the United Kingdom for the A330/340 family of commercial airplanes.

About 600 employees here work on the Airbus A330/340 program. Vought builds the upper panel assemblies, mid and outer leading edge assemblies, the center spar assembly and mid-rear spar for Airbus in the United Kingdom. In October, the Nashville site expects to deliver its 800th unit of A330 wing components to Airbus.

“We are extremely proud of our association as a supplier to Airbus,” said Neil Peace, Vought’s Airbus program director. “The vast majority of our employees in Nashville support Airbus programs. We are grateful for the Airbus business and look forward to growing our relationship with them.”

In 1988, the company became the first major U.S. supplier to Airbus with the award of wing components for the A330/A340. Initial deliveries began in 1990. The A330/A340 family of long-range aircraft offers a single basic airframe in several versions, with two or four engines, to achieve operating efficiencies.

Vought’s Nashville facility also supplies a variety of wing components for the Airbus A320. In 2006, the company celebrated its 600th A319/A320 Airbus wing component delivery.

Contour Aerospace Corp., a wholly owned subsidiary of Vought, produces several machined parts for Airbus aircraft. Its facility in Brea, Calif., provides the A319/A320 stringers and the A330/A340 main landing gear ribs. The site in Everett, Wash., supplies wing landing fittings for the A319/A320 and A330/A340 families.
