Vought Receives Certificate of Occupancy For its 787 Dreamliner Facility

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C., MARCH 30, 2006 – Vought Aircraft Industries, Inc. received a certificate of occupancy for its new production facility here from the City of North Charleston. The certificate was presented to Charles “Newt” Newton, general manager, South Carolina Project, in front of the Vought building yesterday morning by Tommy Morrow, Suitt Construction superintendent.

“This piece of paper represents another milestone for the 787 program and our significant construction projects in South Carolina,” said Newton. “We can officially move into the building and finish installation of the process equipment so that production can begin late in the second quarter of 2006.”

Vought will build aft fuselage sections 47 and 48 in its new South Carolina factory. Global Aeronautica, LLC, a joint venture between Vought and Alenia North America, will integrate 787 fuselage structures in a new building co-located within the composite aerospace industrial cluster adjacent to the Charleston International Airport. The Global Aeronautica assembly and integration facility is scheduled to receive its certificate of occupancy late in the second quarter of 2006 and plans to induct its first product before year-end.

Suitt Construction of Greenville, S.C., part of the BE&K Building Group, was awarded a design-build contract for this 787 Dreamliner project early in 2005. Work began at the site on March 16, 2005. Vought's 342,000-square foot production facility as well as the 12,000-square foot training building were completed on schedule and within budget. To date the entire site construction project represents over 525,000 man-hours without a single lost-time injury.
