DALLAS, DEC. 21, 2005 – Vought Aircraft Industries, Inc. announced today that its annual Can Do! campaign raised enough money to purchase 570, 606 cans of food, which translates into more than 1.1 million meals to those in need.
Employees in California, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Washington participated in the Vought Can Do! food drive Dec. 5-8. Since this annual drive began 23 years ago, Vought has contributed more than 14 million cans to food banks in local communities.
Vought Can Do! in California benefits the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank and Second Harvest Food Bank in Orange County. In Florida, the beneficiary is the United Way White Doves Project. In Georgia, the Milledgeville drive benefits the St. Stephen’s Food Bank and The Empty Stocking. In South Carolina, the Lowcountry Food Bank receives Vought’s Can Do! donation. Nashville’s donations benefit the Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee. In Texas, the contributions go to the North Texas Food Bank and the Tarrant Area Food Bank. In Washington, the Vought drive benefits the Maltby Food Bank.
During the food drive, employees participate in numerous fundraising events such as food sales, silent auctions, games, raffles, and the sale of Can Do! shirts. Voluntary payroll deductions contributed throughout the year adds to the total.
“We definitely have a group of people who don’t just talk about giving back to the community – they dive right in to help the needy year after year,” said Tom Stubbins, Vought vice president of human resources. ”It’s especially rewarding to realize that children and seniors are the ones being helped the most by our annual food drive.”
To support Hurricane Katrina relief efforts, Vought made an early donation of $27,000 in September to the North Texas and Tarrant County food banks from Can Do! payroll deductions of Dallas employees. Vought employees also donated nearly 14,000 pounds in food to the North Texas Food Bank – equivalent to approximately 11,000 meals.
