Vought Announces Scholarship Recipients


 

DALLAS, AUG. 12, 2005 – Vought Aircraft Industries, Inc. recently announced the recipients of nine higher education scholarship awards of $2,000 each. The recipients, selected from the 53 students who applied, are listed alphabetically by company location:

Brea, Calif.
Connie Chin – Senior, California State University – San Bernardino; nursing major (2001 graduate of Rancho Cucamonga High School). Chin also was a Vought scholarship winner last year.

Dallas
Meghan Darling – Senior, Purdue University; speech language and hearing sciences major (2003 graduate of James Martin High School, Arlington, Texas).

Whitney Fasbender – Junior, University of Kansas; dual majors in journalism and nursing (2002 graduate of Cheney High School, Cheney, Kan.).

Alberto Parra – Senior, Texas A & M University; genetics major (2002 graduate of Kennedale High School, Kennedale, Texas).

Daniel Stark – Senior, Texas A&M University; accounting and finance major (2002 graduate of Mansfield High School, Mansfield, Texas).

Hawthorne, Calif.
Jessica Cornick – Junior, Occidental College, Eagle Rock, Calif.; psychology major (2003 graduate of El Camino Real High School, Woodland Hills, Calif.).

Milledgeville, Ga.
Jamie Simons – Senior, Valdosta State University, Valdosta, Ga.; communication disorders major (2002 graduate of John Milledge Academy, Milledgeville, Ga).

Nashville
Jared Sears – Senior, Middle Tennessee State University, Murfreesboro, Tenn.; finance major (2002 graduate of Winchester County High School, Winchester, Tenn.).

Stuart, Fla.
Kylie Jones – Senior, Florida State University; finance major (2002 graduate of South Fork High School, Stuart, Fla.).

The scholarship program is sponsored by Vought Aircraft Industries; the Vought Aircraft Management Association; United Aerospace Workers Local 848; International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 20; Security, Police and Fire Professionals of America Local 263; and the Gordon and Nina Williams Scholarship Fund.

“It’s important to invest in education and support the next generation of workers,” said Randy Smith, Vought’s vice president and chief administrative officer. “Vought is proud to offer scholarships that benefit our employees’ families.”

Eligible students must be entering their junior or senior year of college and be the son, daughter, stepson, stepdaughter or grandchild of an active Vought employee. Students must also maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.0. In addition to their transcripts, applicants submitted a 500-word personal essay and two letters of reference.
