Vought Announces Scholarship Recipients

DALLAS, AUG. 6, 2004 – Vought Aircraft Industries, Inc. recently announced the recipients of nine higher education scholarship awards of $2,000 each. The recipients, selected from the 39 students who applied, are listed alphabetically by company location:

Brea, Calif.
Connie Chin – Senior, California State University – San Bernardino; nursing major (2001 graduate of Rancho Cucamonga High School).

Dallas
Sarah Bourassa – Senior, University of Oklahoma; economics major (2001 graduate of Martin High School, Arlington, Texas).

Jamie Goff – Senior, University of Texas – Arlington (UTA); music education major (2000 graduate of Martin High School, Arlington, Texas). Goff graduated with a degree in biology from UTA in May 2003 and was a Vought Scholarship winner in 2002 and 2003.

Christopher Reynolds – Junior, Trinity University; economics major (2002 graduate of Martin High School, Arlington, Texas).

Jessica Vining – Junior, Texas A & M University; accounting major (2002 graduate of Plano East High School, Plano, Texas).

Hawthorne, Calif.
Joanna Lampkins – Senior, University of California – Los Angeles (UCLA); political science major (2002 graduate of Hope School, Torrance, Calif.). Lampkins also received a Vought scholarship in 2003.

Milledgeville, Ga.
Kelly Gruwell – Senior, Anderson College, Anderson, S.C.; mathematics education major (2001 graduate of Baldwin High School, Milledgeville, Ga.).

Nashville
Whitney Purcell – Senior, Georgetown College, Georgetown, Ky.; three majors: english, history and American studies (2001 graduate of Gallatin High School, Gallatin, Tenn.).

Stuart, Fla.
Matthew Mitts – Senior, University of Florida – Gainesville; mechanical engineering major (2000 graduate of Indian River Community College Adult High School, Fort Pierce, Fla.). Mitts also received a Vought scholarship in 2003.

The scholarship program is sponsored by Vought Aircraft Industries; the Vought Aircraft Management Association; United Aerospace Workers Local 848; International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 20; Security, Police and Fire Professionals of America Local 263; and the Gordon and Nina Williams Scholarship Fund.

“As a company, it’s important for us to invest in the next generation of workers,” said Judy Northup, Vought’s vice president and chief administrative officer. “Vought is proud to offer scholarships that benefit our employees’ families.”

Eligible students must be entering their junior or senior year of college and be the son, daughter, stepson, stepdaughter or grandchild of an active Vought employee. Students must also maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.0. In addition to their transcripts, applicants submitted a 500-word personal essay and two letters of reference.
