Vought Signs 747 Contract Extension with Boeing

DALLAS, SEPT. 19, 2003 - Vought Aircraft Industries, Inc. has signed an agreement with Boeing Commercial Airplanes to continue manufacturing fuselage panels, floor beams and various doors for 747 airplanes through December 2010. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Vought, through its heritage companies, has been a major supplier to Boeing on the 747 since the program began in 1966. The main fuselage section, built at the company's facility in Hawthorne, Calif., is 153.3 feet long. It is the largest single subcontract on the 747 aircraft. Each shipset consists of 28 major panels, 11 doors and 110 floor beams. To date, more than 1,340 shipsets have been delivered to Boeing.

"This is an important contract for our employees in Hawthorne," said Charlie Mongelli, site director for Vought's facility in Hawthorne. "We are honored to continue building major subassemblies for the 747 -- a venerable, efficient airplane with a proven track record."

Vought also is under contract with Boeing to produce the tail section, nacelle panels and other doors for the 747. The 747 tail section includes the aft body section, the vertical and horizontal stabilizers, rudders and elevators. The combined length of the 747 fuselage and tail sections built by Vought results in 189 feet of structure.

In addition, Vought provides various detail parts for the 747, including stringers, panels, doublers, chords and fittings.

Vought Aircraft Industries, Inc. (www.voughtaircraft.com) is one of the world's largest independent suppliers of aerostructures.
