Vought Names Scholarship Recipients


 

DALLAS, AUG. 1, 2003 - Vought Aircraft Industries, Inc. recently announced the recipients of seven higher education scholarship awards of $2,000 each. The recipients, selected from the 37 students who applied, are listed alphabetically by company site:

Dallas

Christopher Brosovic - Junior, University of Texas - Arlington, mechanical engineering major (1992 graduate of Sam Houston High School, Arlington, Texas).

Kimberly Browning Hubartt - Senior, University of Texas - Arlington, graphic design major (1997 graduate of James Martin High School, Arlington, Texas).

Jamie Goff - Senior, University of Texas - Arlington, music major (2000 graduate of Martin High School, Arlington, Texas). Goff, who is also majoring in biology, received a Vought scholarship in 2002.

Catherine Von Reyn - Senior, Georgia Tech, mechanical engineering major (1999 graduate of Ursuline Academy, Dallas). Von Reyn also received a Vought scholarship in 2002.

Hawthorne, Calif.

Joanna Lampkins - Junior, University of California - Los Angeles (UCLA), political science and speech communications majors (2002 graduate of Hope School, Torrance, Calif.).

Milledgeville, Ga.

Zachary Barr - Junior, Georgia College and State University, nursing major (2001 graduate of Georgia Military College High School, Milledgeville, Ga.).

Stuart, Fla.

Matthew Mitts - Junior, University of Florida - Gainesville, electrical engineering major (2000 graduate of Indian River Community College, Fort Pierce, Fla.).

The scholarship program is sponsored by Vought Aircraft Industries, the Vought Aircraft Management Association, United Aerospace Workers Local 848, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 20, Security, Police and Fire Professionals of America Local 263, and the Gordon and Nina Williams Scholarship Fund.

"This is an important program that supports our employees' children," said Judy Northup, Vought's vice president of human resources, administration and information services. "It's an investment in the future that we're proud to make as a company."

Eligible students must be entering their junior or senior year of college and be the son, daughter, stepson, stepdaughter or grandchild of an active Vought employee. Students must also maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.0. In addition to their transcripts, applicants submitted a 500-word personal essay and two letters of reference.
