DALLAS, APRIL 29, 2003 - Vought Aircraft Industries, Inc. announced today that it has raised more than $135,000 for the annual March of Dimes WalkAmerica campaign.
Employees in California, Florida, and Texas participated in the March of Dimes WalkAmerica last Saturday. The amount raised by Texas employees ($119,000) earns them recognition as a "Super Hero" team by the March of Dimes. About 265 Vought employees walked with their families and friends around White Rock Lake in Dallas to support this cause.
The Vought team in Hawthorne, Calif., fielded about 80 walkers and exceeded its goal, raising more than $10,200. Although heavy rainstorms cancelled the walk in Stuart, Fla., the Vought team doubled its goal by collecting more than $6,400. Employees in Milledgeville, Ga., will participate in their local WalkAmerica event on Oct. 11.
"I can't say enough about the generous nature of Vought employees," said Vought President and CEO Tom Risley, who serves on the executive board of the March of Dimes of North Texas. "Even in times of economic difficulty, our employees find a way to reach out and help others. It's truly motivating to see our workforce come together in this effort to help save babies."
WalkAmerica - the walk that saves babies -- is the March of Dimes' largest fundraiser. It is a nationwide tradition that began 33 years ago.
