Vought Adds GKN to Sonic Cruiser Technology Development Sub-Team

DALLAS, AUG. 15, 2002 - Vought Aircraft Industries, Inc. today announced that GKN Aerospace Services has joined its technology development sub-team for the Sonic Cruiser.

The Sonic Cruiser is a new airplane concept unveiled by The Boeing Company. The airplane has a dramatic new configuration and is designed to fly as fast as Mach 0.98 - just under the speed of sound. The plan will shorten travel times while fuel consumption per passenger remains comparable to today's best performing wide-body twinjets.

"GKN has clearly demonstrated its expertise in development of Resin Transfer Molding processes," said Tom Risley, Vought president and chief executive officer. "The company's significant abilities in this area, as well as with Resin Film Infusion, will be an important addition to our enterprise team."

"We are pleased to join the Vought technology development team and are eager to begin work on this exciting new airplane," said Jay Fitzsimmons, president and chief executive officer of GKN Aerospace Services - St. Louis.

Vought created a sub-team to help provide an integrated set machine tool and advanced materials technologies. In addition to GKN, members of the Vought enterprise team are Alcoa Inc., ATK Composites Co., Cincinnati Machine, Cytec Engineered Materials, Nova-Tech Engineering, and Parker Aerospace.
