Vought Selects Scholarship Recipients


 

DALLAS, AUG. 2, 2002 - Vought Aircraft Industries, Inc. recently announced the recipients of eight higher education scholarship awards of $2,000 each. The recipients, selected from the 39 students who applied, are listed alphabetically by company site:

Dallas

Claire Connolly - Senior, Texas A & M University, biomedical science major (2000 graduate of Arlington High School, Arlington, Texas). Connolly also received a Vought scholarship in 2001.

Jana Epperson - Junior, Baylor University, psychology major (2000 graduate of Martin High School, Arlington, Texas)

Jamie Goff - Senior, University of Texas - Arlington, biology major (2000 graduate of Martin High School, Arlington, Texas)

Kelly Hsu - Senior, Texas A & M University, business major (2000 graduate of Mansfield High School, Mansfield, Texas)

Catherine Von Reyn - Junior, Georgia Tech, mechanical engineering major (1999 graduate of Ursuline Academy, Dallas).

April Hill - Junior, Georgia Southern University, anesthesiology major (2000 graduate of Warner Robbins High School, Warner Robbins, Ga.)

The scholarship program is sponsored by Vought Aircraft Industries, the Vought Aircraft Management Association, United Aerospace Workers Local 848, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 20, International Security, Police and Fire Professionals of America Local 263, the Margo Parker Scholarship Fund, and the Gordon and Nina Williams Scholarship Fund.

"It is gratifying as a company to support our employees' children through this program," said Judy Northup, Vought's vice president of human resources, administration and information services. "An investment in these students is an investment in tomorrow's leaders."

Eligible students must be entering their junior or senior year of college and be the son, daughter, stepson, stepdaughter or grandchild of an active Vought employee. Students must also maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.0. In addition to their transcripts, applicants submitted a 500-word personal essay and two letters of reference.
