DALLAS, JULY 16, 2002 - Vought Aircraft Industries, Inc. today announced senior management and organizational changes.
"With the planned retirements of two senior executives, the timing is opportune to realign the organization to take full advantage of the skills and experience of the current senior staff," said Tom Risley, Vought president and chief executive officer. "We've combined some functions and responsibilities wherever it made sense to do so."
Judy Northup has been named vice president of human resources, administration and information services. She succeeds Margo Parker, Vought's corporate vice president and chief human resources and administration officer, who will retire July 31.
Northup is responsible for human resources, security, EEO/affirmative action, communications, community relations, health, safety and environment affairs. She also oversees information technology and implementation of SAP for Vought. Previously she was vice president, materiel. Northup has a bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of Texas at Arlington and a master's of business administration degree in contract acquisition and management from the University of Dallas. In addition, she was a graduate of the 1994 Leadership Texas class.
Vern Broomall has been named vice president of quality, engineering and technology. He succeeds Bob Rudnicki, Vought's vice president of quality and engineering, who retired June 30.
Broomall is responsible for all aspects of Vought quality and engineering, including manufacturing engineering, as well as technology research and development. Previously he was corporate vice president responsible for technology and business development. Broomall received his bachelor's and master's degrees in aeronautical and astronautical engineering from Ohio State University in 1968. He also has a master's degree in business organization from that institution. As a U.S. Air Force officer, he was assigned to the Armament Development and Test Center at Eglin Air Force Base, Fla.; Air Force Systems Command at Andrews Air Force Base, Md.; and the Pentagon. After serving seven years, he left the service with the rank of captain.
Dan Smartis has been promoted to vice president, materiel, succeeding Northup. His responsibilities include procurement, inventory and production control, shipping and receiving, material quality and supplier relations.
Previously Smartis served as Vought's director of subcontract management. He earned his bachelor's degree in business from California State University at Fullerton and is a member of the National Contract Management Association.
Randy Smith has been named director of integration and strategy development. His responsibilities include providing recommendations on financial and non-financial strategic objectives and alternatives, planning, proposal administration and customer, government and industry relations. Previously, he was director of integration. Smith has a bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of Texas, Arlington.
