DALLAS, JAN. 14, 2002 Vought Aircraft Industries, Inc. has appointed Tom Risley president and chief executive officer and will elect him a director of the corporation. Risley succeeds Gordon Williams, who will be elected chairman of the company. Williams succeeds Allan Holt, a managing director of The Carlyle Group, who will remain a director of Vought.
Most recently, Risley served as Voughts chief operating officer. Risley has been with the company 33 years.
"Tom is well qualified to now assume the responsibilities of chief executive officer," said Williams. "Tom has had overall responsibility for the day-to-day operations of Vought since it was acquired by The Carlyle Group in July 2000. Before then, he successfully led our largest programs. This is a result of our planned succession."
Risley began his career in 1968 with the aerospace and defense operations of The LTV Corporation, a predecessor organization of Vought. He has held increasingly responsible assignments in engineering administration, financial management and program operations on a number of military and commercial programs. These include the A-7 attack aircraft, the B-2 bomber and Voughts role as a principal subcontractor to Boeing on the 747, 757, 767 and 777 commercial aircraft.
Risley, 51, has a bachelor degree of business administration in accounting from the University of Texas at Arlington. He is a board member for the United Way of Metropolitan Tarrant County.
