DALLAS, NOV. 27, 2001 Employees of Vought Aircraft Industries, Inc. have raised $25,150 for the New York and Washington relief efforts. The donation is on its way to the United Ways September 11th Fund.
Vought hosted "Unity Day" events at each operating site in mid-October as a way to support one another and help fellow Americans. Employees sold patriotic t-shirts and decals as the primary way of collecting donations. Patriotic entertainment was provided at each site, ranging from local high school ROTC Color Guards to a rendition of Jimi Hendrixs version of "The Star Spangled Banner."
Some departments did their own form of fundraising, such as bake sales. One department in Dallas the "C-17 Coffee Club" collected more than $600 in change by passing around two large, empty coffee tins.
"Unity Day was an opportunity for the Vought family to stand together and celebrate who and what we are, as Americans," said Bill McKenna, Vought Vice President of Site Operations. "It was a day of encouragement, a day to press forward, and a day to lend a hand."
Community support and activism is nothing new for Vought, according to Margo Parker, Vought Corporate Vice President and Chief Human Resources and Administration Officer. "Vought employees have a long history of rallying behind projects and programs that help make our communities better. Its what makes our work force so special. They rise to the occasion whenever a helping hand is needed."
