Community Relations at Vought
printer-friendly version (word document)
Vought Aircraft Industries, Inc. cares about being a good corporate citizen. It recognizes the obligation of the private sector to actively participate in solving community problems. Vought concentrates on giving back to communities where employees live and work, supporting charitable programs and organizations that help solve serious social issues. Employees are encouraged to give their time and talents through volunteer activities. In addition, in-kind donations are granted whenever possible.
Community activism is a differentiator for Vought. Employees have a long history of rallying behind projects that help make our communities better. Vought’s two main community relations initiatives are:
March for Babies – The March of Dimes
Since 1980, employees from Vought in Dallas have been turning out by the hundreds in the annual spring rite known today as March for Babies (formerly WalkAmerica). All Vought sites across the country are now enthusiastic participants in the walk to prevent birth defects.
Employees embrace the cause of helping to save babies. Many of them have had their own lives touched by services made possible by the March of Dimes. March for Babies attracts employees, their spouses, their children and grandchildren, their dogs, their friends and neighbors. Even in the pouring rain, employees have been faithful to collect their pledges. All money raised goes to the March of Dimes and helps March of Dimes clinics and research in the local area.
The company absorbs administrative costs and provides refreshments for the Vought team at the walk sites. The company’s graphics department also designs a unique T-shirt and each walker receives one for reaching a specific fund goal. The t-shirts make the Vought team readily identifiable at the walk. In 2006, for the third consecutive year, Vought won the “best t-shirt design” award from the March of Dimes organization in Dallas.
In 2007, Vought raised more than $110,000 for the March of Dimes annual walking event.
Vought Can Do!
The Employee Canned Food Drive From coast to coast, Vought employees demonstrate their compassion and caring by raising funds to feed the hungry at holiday time. Through numerous and often festive activities, employees contribute to local food banks and other agencies.
Vought marked its 25th annual Can Do! campaign in 2007 by raising $154,866. These funds are used by local food banks and non-profit agencies to provide meals and emergency groceries to the needy. Since the canned food drive began at the Dallas site in 1982, employees throughout the company have contributed the equivalent of 15 million cans to food banks and local agencies that provide meals and emergency groceries to the needy. The Dallas site’s employee canned food drive is one of the largest single-location food drives in the nation by a non-food company.
In recognition of these exceptional results, Dallas employees in 1988 received The President’s Voluntary Action Award Citation and the Dallas Outstanding Volunteer Award.
