In 1929 Japan purchased through Mitsui Company a single O2U-1 Corsair from Chance Vought Aircraft Company. As customary in those days, blueprints furnished with the purchase enabled Japan to build 150 Corsairs. This Type 90, Model 3 carrier-based reconnaissance plane, was built by Nakajima Aircraft , based on the Vought design.
