F4U PILOT DOWNS SEVEN PLANES IN FIRST ENGAGEMENT ----  In his first engagement with Jap aircraft, Ensign Albert Lerch, USNR, Coopersburg, Penn., flying a Vought F4U Corsair fighter plane from the deck of a U. S. Navy carrier off Okinawa, shot down seven enemy planes. The twenty-three -year-old pilot, with a fellow flier, had taken on a force of thirty Nips attacking U. S. Warships off beleaguered Okinawa. His score for the sortie showed six Jap fighters and one bomber accounted for.
