F4U-1D CORSAIR INTO THE FRAY - Piloted by a Marine flier, a Vought Corsair fighter taxis down the flight deck of an ESSEX-class carrier prior to taking off on a war mission in the Pacific. Marine-manned F4U's have joined Navy Grumman Hellcats, General Motors Avengers and Curtiss Helldivers in the array of carrier weapons being hurled against the Japanese in the Pacific.
