The famed carrier fighter Chance-Vought "Corsair" (F4U) now being flown from an American carrier in sorties against the invading North Koreans is shown here in a ground shot which displays its formidable array of armament. The present "Corsair" is a much improved version of the same plane which gained fame for Navy and Marine pilots during WWII. In strikes against the North Koreans the plane is able to carry eight 6-inch rockets and three 1600 pound bombs in addition to its four 20 mm guns. The United States carrier operating against the North Koreans also operates the Grumman (F9F) Panther, jet fighter and the Douglas (AD) Skyraider, attack plane.
