In November 2003, Boeing named Vought as one of its structural partners for the 787 Dreamliner.

Charleston International Airport in South Carolina was selected as the location for Vought's 787 manufacturing facility and the Global Aeronautica integration center. Vought produces aft fuselage sections 47 and 48 at its new 342,000-square-foot facility, which is co-located with the 334,000-square-foot Global Aeronautica facility.

Groundbreaking at the 240-acre site in North Charleston, S.C., took place in February 2005, and the two main facilities were completed in 2006. Vought production began in 2006, with initial deliveries to Boeing occurring in 2007.

The 787 is a new commercial airplane program for The Boeing Co. It is being designed as a highly fuel-efficient
wide-body jetliner with significantly lower operating costs.

The airplane will allow more people access to economical, point-to-point travel in both the overseas and domestic markets. The 787's fuel efficiency will allow it to provide strong environmental performance and provide passengers with unparalleled comfort for long-range flight. It is the fastest selling
airplane in commercial aviation history.
